I made an all grain American Wheat and I think that I forgot to aerate it. It started fermenting in under 12 hours with a yeast starter,
but what can I expect on the negative side with my finished beer?
What happened to the Brewboard? It seems that traffic / participation has died to a slow crawl….
I was not active on here for many months…..come back and it seems like a ghost town….
Friday evening I racked from my secondary into the keg. The racking process this time around was a nightmare. I inadvertently siphoned through some chunks of whole hops. The thing got stuck several times and I decided to pull off the cap at the bottom of the siphon tube. This of course pulled in some of the yeast from the carboy. After all the beer was in the keg, I put 30lbs on and stored in the fridge @ ~ 42F.
This afternoon I released the pressure down to 10lbs. Glass in hand and a grin on my face went to pour. . .NOTHING! I shook the keg trying to dislodge the thing, still nothing. I even placed the CO2 onto the serving side of the keg, pushed some pressure through for 2 seconds then tried again. This time I got about 1/2 cup of liquid before the works clogged again. Any ideas what to do next? Do I need to siphon off the beer into another keg without the whole hop chunks?
Took my crack at a Porter a few weeks back and am very pleased with the results. Have had several people tell me they think its the best brew to date. (Which kinda made me mad cuz my flagship is named after my son - and is by far my fav brew - lol)
Figured I’d share the recipe in case anyone has any interest in trying one.
18lbs Golden Promise
4lbs Munich Light
2lbs CaraMunich II
1lb DeBittered Black
1lb Roasted Barley
2oz Chinook (60)
1oz Sirochi (ya can sub your fav hop here)
2lb Brown Sugar (flameout)
4packs Wyeast 1084 - Irish Ale
Enjoy! I’ll be doing my second batch tonight!

I had a great brewday yesterday. I made a batch of my Honker’s Ale clone but I think I may have gone overboard with the sanitation this time. I think it is very possible that some StarSan had made it into my primary. The reason I say this is because I still have a head of foam (not krausen) on my beer after shaking to aerate. I have pitched my yeast WLP013 over 12 hours ago and no activity in the air lock at all.
Let’s assume for a minute that the yeast is (or at least was) healthy, my fermentation temperature is in typical range, and that I inadvertently added some StarSan solution to my wort. Is it ruined or can it be saved?
Making a wild berry porter and was wondering the amount of berries I should use for 5 gallons? Looking for a slight berry flavor. Thanks in advance for any opinions you provide.
Looking for recipes from the 2010 Longshot winners. Last year they were published in BYO. Has anyone seen them posted online?
I’ll be brewing this tomorrow. I have several IPA recipe’s and this is a variation of one of my favorite ones.
It’s not carved in stone yet so comments on my hop schedule/grain bill are more than welcome. This will be my first time using Centennials, Cascades, and Amarillo together. The Willamette is included in the flavor additions to add some subtle earhy flavor in the back ground.

Bottled right at a week ago. Seems my bottles have what appears to be krausen or sediment floating on top. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed this in previous batches. Although I’m still relatively inexperienced at this. Its an ale that’s sitting in my basement. Although here the temps have gotten in to the mid to high 70’s down there.
Does this seem normal?
Thanks guys.
edit: There is sediment in the bottom.
Not the biggest deal, but I’ve been reading lots of posts about converting fridges. Took the plunge yesterday when I got my Johnson controller in the mail. Got out the foam core board, drill, and crazy glue. It actually worked! Pretty psyched to try my first true lager this summer.

What are they and how do I kill them or keep them off of my hops. They appear to be eating up my leaves. Thanks
It is possible to have a big foam head but a lack of carbonation. I guess it is better to carbonated through a long dip tube or through a carbonating stone, but I am not sure if that would help to balance the carbonation level and the foamy head. Any thoughts? I want a strong carbonation level without fighting the foam battle! Beer carbonation is as important a factor as anything in home brewing; otherwise, beer seems flat inspite of the nice head formation.

Found this on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-BATTERY-POWERED-SE…=item5d2870dec9 ) and you can buy a 120VAC to 12VDC adapter for 10 bucks that makes the total price around 70 with shipping cost… thats near half of the ones at the HBS and this one would have a SS head! Has anyone done this or will any electrical guys tell me im dumb and not thinkikng it all the way through.
Thanks guys
New to growing hops..how frequent should I be watering?

My family and I have rented a beautiful house in Duck NC for this week. I brought a couple of kegs of good homebrew to enjoy and share with the family. I brought everything I need, but left the faucets at home.
I know that if I don’t find a local source, I can order them from Jess at AB and we’ll probably have them tomorrow. But I was hoping someone would know of a source near the northern Outer Banks.
Thanks in advance.
