Artomatic is an art event in Washington. This year’s Artomatic is taking place through June 15, 2008 and has 800 artists showing in 250,000 square feet of a newly-built office building. 50,000 people are anticipated throughout the 6 weeks the show is up.

Artomatic also sells beer. Which is where Flying Dog Brewery comes in as Artomatic’s official beer sponsor!

The spectacle of Artomatic was unbelievable. We knew the event would be big, but we were completely unprepared for the scope of this thing.

Flying Dog Brewery was one of the supporting breweries at the first-ever Savor festival in Washington D.C. Every beer that was being poured at Savor was also paired with some food, from raspberry-filled artisan chocolates to Empanadas with Mango Salsa and everywhere between.

Savor was held in the Andrew Mellon Auditorium, a very unique location for a beer festival, a block off the Mall right near the Washington Monument. Enthusiastic beer and food connoisseurs descended upon Washington to experience the best of what American Craft Brewers have to offer.

The format of the fundraiser was similar to Iron Chef. 3 local chefs were paired with local celebrities and were given 45 minutes to create a 4 course meal.

We had a release party at the Blake Street Tavern for our new Wild Dog release, an Open Source Doppelbock. Also sampled were some experimental Canis Major beers, such as a Barrel-Aged Horn Dog Barley Wine and Gonzo Imperial Porter with Brettanomyces (google it). We met up with Stan Hieronymous - a fantastic beer writer - and Justin Davis, who has a weekly podcast about Craft Beer (davisondraft.com).
